We have recently completed a walk-through of the property
with Acres to access the siding damage that has been caused by lawnmowing
over the last couple of seasons. We will get compensation from Acres for
this damage and will commence to replace siding through the Residential
Associations in the Spring.
Snow removal
The snow removal season will be starting soon and Acres
will again be our snow removal contractor. We have had several discussions
with them since the disas ter of last January's heavy snow and we will
have oth ers. They have assured us that they will have adequate staff and
equipment available to handle any snow needs this year. Dave Higgins has
agreed to take charge of the snow removal this year and he will replace
Keith Low ery who has done it for the last few years.
Handicapped indivduals or those with special needs for
snow removal should contact ASI at 459-6565
Board Elections
Elections for the Riva Ridge Board of Directors will
be coming up in February and we urge all homeowners who might be interested
in serving to give that some consideration. A formal call for candidates
will be mailed prior to the election. We can always use new people who
have a desire to contribute.
Homeowners welcome
Our next Riva Ridge Umbrella Board meeting will be on
Wednesday December 8 at the Township Hall. All homeowners are invited and
encouraged to attend.
Merger discontinued
New committee formed
For over a year the Merger Committee has met to study
the feasibility of merging the three boards (Residential I, Resi dential
II and Umbrella) into one association. The commit tee seeked legal and
fmancial expertise to determine what, if any, financial savings and management
efficiencies would
- benefit the homeowners. -~ -
After reviewing the issues, the committee learned that 100% consent of the homeowners would be required. The Com mittee knowing that some homeowners were against a merger and that 100% of the homeowners could not be achieved discontinued the merger effort and dissolved the committee.
A positive of the Merger Committee was that they found
several ways for potential cost savings such as insurance purchased by
the Umbrella for all three Associations. A new committee has been formed
to explorer and consider cost saving benefits to the Riva Ridge homeowners.
Tragic accident stuns Riva Ridge Community
On Sunday, October 9, 1999 a car driven by Otis Held
man with his son, Matthew, a former Libertyville High School basketball
star, veered over a Milwaukee Ave. median colliding with a minivan containing
Francis "Skip" Osterman and his wife JoAnn, claming the lives of all four.
The Ostermans were residents of our Riva Ridge Com munity.
Francis Osterman owned a carpet-laying com pany and is remembered for helping
neighbors with plumbing, carpentry and other handyman jobs. JoAnn spearheaded
and was involved with the Riva Ridge So cial Committee, she served as president
for four years. Both Ostermans were known as outgoing, enthusiastic individuals
who enjoyed participating in Libertyville civic activities. Our condolences
go to their family and friends. Our community will miss them.

Balcony staining has had to be delayed until next Spring
in order to assure proper adhesion and curing time. Owners affected will
be notified of the new dates some time in April.
An inspection of siding has revealed a number of areas where damage has occurred. Plans are to correct this situation in the Spring, and where appropriate, bill the costs to our landscaper.
The last open Residential II board meeting of this millen
nium will be on Thursday, December 2, 1999 at 7:30 p.m. at the Libertyville
Township Offices.
Don't let frozen pipes wreck your winter
To lesson chances of water damage from frozen pipes you
are urged to:
Remove hoses from outside spigots and make certain the
spigots are tightly shut.
If you plan on leaving your unit vacant for an extended
pe riod of time, do not set the ther mostat below 62 degrees. Leave
cabinet doors under sinks opened and all bathroom doors
opened.
Holidays are almost here..~ Let's talk about decorating
Decorations are a beautiful addition to Riva Ridge during
the holiday season. Because we are an homeowner Associa tion our rules
and regulations must be followed.
Before ~lannin~ vour decorations, how-
ever, keep in mind that nothing is permitted to be affixed,
hung, or placed on any portion of a building exterior, bal conies, lampposts,
mail boxes, sidewalks, driveways, or lawns. With this as the basic, overall
guideline, let's see how many ways there are to dress up your home, and
still be in compliance:
The inside of your unit is yours to decorate in any way
you see fit. Just be careful about potential fire or electrical hazards.
The inside of windows or glass storm doors are great for wreaths, holly, spray-on snow, sparkle, ribbons, and even twinkling lights.
Small, non-electric wreaths or ribbons may be placed over or hung from coach-lights located on the building or front wall of garages.
Holiday theme flags may be flown from the same bracket normally used to display American flags.
Shrubs and evergreen trees may be strung with lights to create outside festivity. Caution should be taken to use oidv UL aDDn)ved outdoor cords, and to plug them into the weather-proof outlets near your front and rear entrances. Do not plug into the lampposts or carriage light fixtures. Neither should you replace their special bulbs with colored lights.
When in doubt, contact your managing agent before doing anything not clearly spelled out.
Please have decorations removed by January 8, 2000.
